First Steps in Tableau

Data Visualization is an integral part of Data Science, so it’s without question something to master. Two of the most well known tools for visualization are D3 and Tableau. The first I have to do some Javascript knowledge building in before I tackle it, but the second, to my mind, can be grasped firmly through exploration, and that’s exactly what I did. The first step was to webscrape data for all the soccer players in Brazil’s top league and output the results to a csv file. The next was to get the data in Tableau and stumble around until something respectable appeared. The results are below.

Er…yeah. No amount of search revealed how to embed a Tableau post into a blog of this type, so I have to make do with a link to the workbook. The data on minutes will be long out of date soon since the season is nowhere close to being over, but the point of this was just to serve a a learning excercise. Not too bad of a results, if I do say so myself. (It’s strikes me that I shoudl mentioned that the enclosed area represents what is commonly thought of as the peak age range for soccer players in terms of performance.)
